ARE THEY IN TOO DEEP?

Ex-Navy SEAL Cabe Moss always comes when called to duty—at all costs. Even though the death of his fiancée nearly destroyed him, Cabe won’t let his past interfere with any work that has to get done. When his latest task pushes him to team up with FBI operative Amy Murray, a fierce beauty with the undercover skills to match, Cabe must admit that, for the first time in years, he wants to do more than just complete their mission together…

Amy was born ready for this assignment, but working side-by-side with the strong, silent, and frustratingly professional Cabe seems to be the biggest challenge of all. But when the sparks begin to fly—and the stakes rise to dangerous heights—the only thing Amy is left worrying about is how she can resist him. Their lives may be in danger, but their hearts hold the biggest risk of all…

I requested and received an ARC of this book from the publisher.

Once again I have started a series at the end instead of the beginning. Fortunately it didn’t matter at all.

Cade’s fiancé died in an IED blast while patrolling. In this book we see his reactions during her birthday and on the anniversary of her death. The first frustrated me but I got it, the second brought me to tears. Ex-SEALs he and his two best friends have started a security company and are contracted on this case with the CIA because of the international implications.

Amy is an FBI agent who has recently transferred to San Diego, after having gone through the hell of sexual harassment and the aftermath of her accusation. She specializes in searches for missing women, for a very personal reason.

After an initial interaction that didn’t end well, they certainly didn’t expect run into each other again. Two separate cases with a common denominator. A casino, a venue that Amy is uniquely qualified to go in undercover. She will be looking for leads on the missing women with Cade as one of her backup as he looks for the money trail.

Fast paced and suspenseful as the pieces come start coming together. Plenty of heat between Cade and Amy as they try to remain professional without moving on their attraction. Once they give in it’s explosive and just adds to the drama.

I now have to go back and read the other two books in this series. I really liked Mac and Six and their women. I need to read their stories.

The tattoo across my right hip says it all really. A Life Less Ordinary. Inked by the amazingly talented Luke Wessman at the Wooster Street Social Club (a.k.a. New York Ink). Why is it important? Well, it sums up my view on life. That we should all aspire to live a life that is less boring, less predictable. Be bold, and do something amazing. I’ve made some crazy choices. I’ve been a car maker, a consultant, and even a senior executive at a large retailer running strategy. Born in England, spent time in the U.S. and Japan, before ending up in Canada where I met my own, personal hero – all six and a half feet of him. Both of us are scorpios! Yeah, I know! Should have checked the astrological signs earlier, but somehow it works for us. We have two amazing kids, who I either could never part with or could easily be convinced to sell on e-bay.

I’ve wanted to be a writer for a really long time. Check through my office cupboards or my computer and you’ll find half written stories and character descriptions everywhere. Now I’m getting the chance to follow that dream.

Available Again with a New Cover! Protecting Julie – SEAL of Protection Book 6.5 By Susan Stoker

Protecting Julie
SEAL of Protection Book 6.5
By
Susan Stoker

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

This book was previously published in the Kindle Worlds program. The cover has changed, but the book itself has not changed in any significant way.

Julie Lytle is working hard to turn her life around. Being kidnapped by sex traffickers changed her drastically, but having grown up the spoiled daughter of a senator, Julie wishes she could’ve changed just a little sooner. Shamed by her behavior toward the woman rescued alongside her, and further embarrassed and guilt-racked over the way she treated the SEALs who risked their lives on her behalf, Julie is desperate to make amends.

With help from a D.C. acquaintance who’d endured her own harrowing experience, Julie connects with Patrick Hurt, Commander of the SEALs who’d saved her life. If she can prove she’s not the same person who mistreated his team, he’ll grant her request to meet them—but not before the protective, sexy man makes a surprising request of his own.

**Protecting Julie is a part of the SEAL of Protection Series. It’s book 6.5 in the series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s recommended you read the books in order to get maximum enjoyment out of the series.

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogo

We met Julie in Protecting Fiona, and quite frankly, I didn’t like her one bit. Seeing her in this new environment was enlightening.

Patrick Hurt isn’t going to let her meet Cooper without knowing if she’s sincere. He sets up a meeting at the beach to evaluate her story.

This is a favorite scene from the end of that meeting.

The more he thought about it, the more Patrick knew the team needed to hear from her. They needed to know everything she’d just told him, but it was her story to tell, not his.

He’d give her the chance she needed to thank the guys and he’d warn them ahead of time to give her a shot. But watching her fight to tell him her story, watching her work her way through it, made him respect her.

Patrick was a hard man. Over twenty years in the Navy, most of those as a SEAL, had made him that way. But he’d never been so moved by a story as he’d been by Julie’s. It would be up to Cookie if he wanted to let Fiona meet Julie as well, so he wasn’t going to let either woman know of the other’s existence until the guys had met with her.

“A date?”

“Yeah. You know…dinner…maybe another walk on a beach…a date.”

She looked at him in confusion for a beat. “So you can find out more about what happened down there? Why I was a bitch?”

Patrick stepped in front of her and put his hands on the rough bark of the tree at her hips, realizing he was probably overstepping his bounds after she’d just poured her heart out to him and knowing he was still practically a stranger to her. He leaned forward, trying to make sure she really heard him and saw he was serious. “No. Because despite the difference in our ages, I’m attracted to you.”

“To me?”

Patrick chuckled and looked her in the eyes. “You.”

He watched as she struggled to come to terms with what he said. When she did respond, it wasn’t what he thought she’d say. “You aren’t that much older than me.”

He pulled back. “How old do you think I am?” “Um…” She wrinkled her nose as she contemplated him. “Thirty-five?”

He burst out laughing. When he had himself under control, he told her, “I appreciate that, but no, I’m not thirty-five.”

When he didn’t say anything else, she asked, “Then how old are you?”

“I don’t think I’m going to tell you.”

“What? Why? I thought only women were sensitive about their ages.”

“I’m not sensitive about it, but I don’t want to give you any reason to say no.”

The laughter died on her face and she gazed at him for a beat. “If I say no, does that really mean that you won’t help me make it right with your SEALs?”

“No. I might be a dick, but I’d never force you to go out with me. I know I said I’d set up a meeting on one condition, but I lied. I’ll do it if you agree to see me again or not.”

“Okay.”

“Okay to the fact that I lied about the condition, or okay to going out on a date with me?”

“Both.”

Patrick nodded and moved back a fraction, holding out his hand. “Come on, I’ll walk you back to your car.”
Stoker, Susan. Hot SEALs: Protecting Julie (Kindle Worlds) (SEAL of Protection Book 0) (Kindle Locations 459-489). Kindle Worlds. Kindle Edition.

Alas that date doesn’t happen, because of an unexpected visitor to the Julie’s shop.

Caroline and the other wives came back to see the new arrivals and Fiona is one of them.

While I wasn’t surprised by the reaction of the women, I found myself feeling a bit sorry for Julie. She had no way of knowing who they were and Fiona couldn’t have known Julie owned the shop either.

A decision not to meet with the SEAL team after seeing Fiona, could break the possible relationship with Patrick.

This book had as many sad moments as happy ones, and Julie gets first hand experience as to why SEALs don’t need the thanks.

Once again I couldn’t stop reading until the final page was done.

Prairie Desire – Cowboys of the Flint Hills Book 3 by Tessa Layne

Prairie Desire
Cowboys of the Flint Hills Book 3
By
Tessa Layne

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

What’s a guy to do when the girl of his dreams makes a pass at him?

Saying no to Hope Hansen was the hardest thing Ben Sinclaire has ever done. Despite the fact that he’s loved her since grade school, between their age difference and a family feud, a romance between them was forbidden. But now she’s back and the girl he loved has become all woman. He’s finally ready to make his move, but he’ll have to get around her brothers and a field of admirers to do it.

What’s a girl to do when faced with the worst mistake from her past?

Eight years ago, Hope took a chance on Ben and got shot down. Heart broken and mortified, she left town. A fiasco at veterinary school foils her plan to avoid him forever by forcing her to come home to Prairie. When her brothers meddle in her love life by placing a Cowboy Wanted ad for her in the back of Rancher’s Monthly, Ben becomes her unlikely ally. As all her feelings come crashing back, Hope isn’t sure if she can trust him… or herself.

Cowboy Wanted: True Love Awaits

Ben comes up with a daring plan to win Hope, but when ice storms, weddings, and babies interfere, will it backfire? Or will Hope realize that true love has been waiting right under her nose the whole time?

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

Ben and Hope have big secret, they have been friends for years but never said a word to anyone because of the feud between their families.

As children they built a treehouse together, just out of sight of either family. When he hears she’s coming home, Ben visits it he finds it destroyed. In that moment he decides to rebuilt it.

There was more there though, Ben had rejected Hope when she asked him to be her first lover. After reconsidering, he returned to hear her with someone else in their space and once again left.

This is a favorite scene when Hope visits the newly built treehouse.

A look of pure anguish twisted the softness in her face. “Our business finished the night you told me I was crazy and just a kid.”

He cringed as his conscience pricked at him. That pain was all because of him. “About that…”

Her mouth pinched closed, and she shook her head firmly, hugging her arms. “Oh no. You don’t get to throw away a friendship then waltz back in eight years later a-an-and build me the tree house of my dreams. What were you thinking?

She was good. Throwing his words back at him like that. At least she’d noticed he’d included every detail she’d ever dreamed about in the new structure. He’d take a small victory. But it irked him she was accusing him of throwing away their friendship when she was the one who’d broken their rule and brought someone to the tree house. “Who exactly threw away our friendship?”

She shifted her weight, arms still crossed defensively. A move that, if she hadn’t been wearing a leather jacket, would have accentuated her curves. God, he ached to run his hands under her coat and familiarize himself with the sweep of her breast, the dip of her waist. His fingers twitched at the thought. He’d replayed that night countless times, always taking things further than they’d gone.

“Considering you were the one who said I ruined everything, you did.”

He stood, bracing his hands against the large crossbeam, and leaned toward her. “You broke the kissing rule.”

Her eyes widened at the accusation. “What do you mean? I didn’t kiss anyone. Well, except you, and like you said, that ruined everything.”

“What about the next night? I came back. You were here with a boy.”

She sucked in a breath, face registering shock. “You came back?” Disbelief colored her voice.

He gave her a crooked smile. Might as well throw all the cards on the table. “It’s possible I had a change of heart.”

The look she leveled at him was weighted with suspicion. “You had a change of heart.”

“I came back.” He sighed heavily, insides roiling in discomfort. Nothing about this conversation was easy. “I wanted to set things right. And, yes, I wanted to kiss you.” He let that sink in. “But you were… occupied.”

Her mouth dropped open, and just as quickly, she snapped it shut and pinched her nose at the crease between her eyebrows. Dropping her hand, she glared at him, shaking her head. “Oh no. You don’t get to do this.”

“Do what? Clear the air?” The tree house suddenly felt confining. Like the two of them were too much for the walls. This conversation was too intense for the small space.

“You do not get to put the demise of our friendship on me. You left. You bailed out.”

Maybe coming here had been a mistake. Maybe he should have let sleeping dragons lie. He let years of pent up emotion get the better of him as his voice rose. “I came back.”

“Did you think after you humiliated me, I would wait around for one second?” Her voice trembled with barely contained outrage.

“I thought you wouldn’t run out and drag the first piece of ass you could find into our tree house.”

Hope’s eyes flashed fire. He knew he was pushing her buttons. He couldn’t help it. He’d been sucker punched that night, hearing her laugh with someone else.

Our tree house? If it was ours, how come you stayed away? This has always been my sanctuary, my retreat.”

“Bullshit. Now you’re being melodramatic. It’s been ours since day one, and you know it.”

He’d stayed away more than he should have those last few summers before everything blew up, but he couldn’t watch her turn into a woman, knowing she was off-limits. Jesus. He was only human.
Layne, Tessa. Prairie Desire: Cowboys of the Flint Hills (pp. 29-31). Shady Layne Media. Kindle Edition.

Now it’s going to take a lot to mend this but her brothers inadvertently help her when they do the unspeakable. They take out a personal ad for her in Ranchers Monthly.

Paybacks are a bitch and revenge is best served cold. I loved Hope’s revenge.

She also is hiding something and that could ruin her relationship with Ben.

I laughed a lot, sniffled a little and enjoyed every page of this book!

Issued to the Bride: One Soldier – Brides of Chance Creek Book 5 By Cora Seton

Issued To The Bride: One Soldier
Brides of Chance Creek Book 5
By
Cora Seton

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

Jack Sanders built his career as an army intelligence operative on his uncanny ability to anticipate what the enemy will do next–but he never anticipated the trouble he’s landed in. Removed from duty, his future on the line, he’ll have to accept a truly unusual mission to redeem himself. His orders are clear: head to Montana, marry General Reed’s daughter, and secure the family’s ranch once and for all from the drug cartel trying to get a toe hold in Chance Creek.

Everyone knows Alice Reed gets hunches about what might happen. What they don’t know is she’s got one blind spot: her own future. But she’s watched four men arrive to marry her four sisters. It doesn’t take a psychic to predict her father plans to send a man for her, as well. But when Jack arrives, Alice knows she’s in trouble. He seems as aware of the future as she is; and he wants something from her she swore she’d never give to a man her father sent–

Her heart.

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

Jack is going to have it a lot harder than the other guys the General sent. Not that any of them had an easy time winning the hearts of their Brides but Alice is different.

Jack believes there is a logical explanation for everything and nothing is magical or mystical. Alice on the other hand, has visions, not always clear but they come true and there is no explanation.

Jack has also been trying to see the maze and the center stone, sending drones in to observe only to be foiled at every turn. When he tries to enter the maze it closes, and he thinks it’s something Alice is doing with some sort of mechanism. He’s determined to figure it out.

This is a favorite scene that shows the maze truly has a mind of it’s own.

Alice wasn’t sure, but somehow it was a big deal. Peering into the heart of the maze was like peering into Amelia’s heart. He didn’t just get to fly over and see everything all at once.

“I’m not doing this,” she repeated. “It’s the maze. It’s not going to let you in.”

“And you can’t get out, either,” he pointed out. “So I’m going to stand right here until you open it again.”

“Jack!” He wasn’t listening to her.

“I’m a lot more determined than you give me credit for. You think you can run me off this ranch with a little hocus-pocus and a lot of attitude?”

“Attitude?” This wasn’t attitude. This was… Alice didn’t know what it was. This was the way things worked at Two Willows.

“You can’t keep me out of there forever.” She could hear the frustration in his voice, and while his words should have annoyed her—and did—his tone somehow endeared him to her. He was a man. Human. And he wanted to be in the maze with her.

She got a glimpse of them holding hands. Jack leaning down and kissing her. A surge of desire swept through her, surprising Alice with its strength. It had been a long time since she’d wanted a man’s touch.

“I’m not trying to keep you out, but I think… I think for now you have to go away,” she said reluctantly. “I don’t think it’s going to open again if it means giving you the chance to get in.”

“I could just shove my way through it.”

“Don’t!” Alice caught herself. He’d think she’d lost her mind. “Don’t push through it, Jack. This is a slow-growing hedge. You’ll break branches and ruin it.” She didn’t add she wasn’t sure what it would do to him if he tried.

“If you want me to leave Two Willows so badly, just say so.”

Alice stepped forward. “It’s not that,” she heard herself say.

“Then what is it?” He sounded closer. Right on the other side of the hedge. What did the maze want? That was obvious.

“You have to have a little faith. I’m not lying to you, Jack. About anything.” She wasn’t sure he’d heard. It was quiet for a long time.

“How can I believe you when what you’re saying is impossible?”

Alice chuckled. That was the question, wasn’t it? “Welcome to my world. Just go back to the house for a minute, okay?”

She thought she heard him sigh. Would he leave Two Willows? Why did she hope he’d stay?

“Will you come back to the house, too?” Jack asked.

Alice touched her gloved hand to the wall of the hedge again, knowing Jack was on the other side of it. “Yes, I’ll be right there.”
Seton, Cora. Issued to the Bride One Soldier (Brides of Chance Creek Book 5) (Kindle Locations 1049-1070). One Acre Press. Kindle Edition.

Top all that off with the problem that started in the last book with all the daughter’s off the ranch. The General is injured and coming home. Not an event they are looking forward to.

Alice also has a commitment to make Civil War ballgowns for Landon Clark, a producer, to review and he keeps changing when he’ll arrive, bringing it closer instead of postponing.

Talk about tension, when the General arrives he believes he is in control. His daughters are stubborn and he is going to see a bit of their wrath.

Getting ready for the holidays, a plumbing issue with a new plumber to fix it, a producer filled with his own self importance and Cass’s best friend Wyoming staying with them since she lost her job combine to make this a family drama of epic proportions.

Oh did I mention the cute aide the general has with him? He kind of likes Wyoming but she has her eye on the plumber.

Lots of problems for Jack as he tries to make sense of Alice’s gift, I found myself laughing and cheering on the strong women of Two Oaks. I even cried a few times as the General works his way toward peace with his daughters.

Plus the added surprise in the general’s letter from his wife, giving us yet another book in this series!

The First Book in the Willow Bend Series – Wolf Bite by Heather Long!

Wolf Bite
Wolves of Willow Bend Book 1
By
USA Today Bestselling Author
Heather Long

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

After a dominance challenge left his parents dead, Mason left Willow Bend and his pack behind, choosing instead to live life on his own terms…a Lone Wolf. A wanderer, he keeps his life simple and carefree—until an unexpected encounter brings him face to face with his tragic past and the woman he’s always adored. Determined to get her out of his blood, he teases her into an easy one-night stand…but one taste will never be enough.

Alexis Huston lived on the fringe of pack life, adopted as a young girl, she’s never been strong enough, fast enough, or pretty enough—except to Mason, but then he left her. Allowed her freedom as an adult with the promise to keep the pack’s secrets, she’s struggled to fit into the ‘human’ world and then a chance meeting turns her hard-won life upside down.

Now she has to decide whether to tell the only wolf she’s ever loved that she’s pregnant or do what she has to do to protect him…keep it secret and run.

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

When Mason Claybourne scented Alexis Huston he knew she was in trouble. He had to help her, protect her.

It had been a long time 10 years since he was forced to go lone wolf. He knew he couldn’t stay with her, but he could make sure she was safe and back with the wolves that should be protecting her. The thing is there aren’t any. She’s here alone.

There is a history between Alexis and Mason, one that requires a lot of fixing. Some of that was in the explosive way these two come together, which causes the demise of more than one bed and well mattresses and pillows too.

This is a favorite scene after one of those sessions.

Mason broke the headboard and sliced through the mattress. He was also there when she woke in the morning, rousing her in a slow, devastating sensual assault that left her boneless as well as breathless. Their day together—bed shopping included—reminded her of all the fun times they’d spent as teens—though they’d hardly shopped then. The familiarity lay in the ease with which they fell into familiar routines and how comfortable he was to be around.

The bed he purchased included a hardened steel frame and it had to weigh a ton. But he handled the delivery, loading it in his truck rather than allowing others into her place. He also replaced the doorknob he’d broken and the faceplate. After he’d put the new bed together, he enticed her into christening it. Spent and drifting, she sprawled atop him, her cheek pressed to his shoulder. White feathers floated down around them and she began to laugh. “Well, the bed survived, but you managed to kill my last pillow.”

“What is your fascination with birds?” The rumble of his voice accompanied by his heartbeat had her curling her toes. She wanted to make love to him all over again, which didn’t seem possible—she could barely move.

“I like soft things,” she smiled, then pressed a kiss to his chest. No, she definitely didn’t want to move. “And hard ones. If I have to pick a pillow, then I pick you.”
Long, Heather. Wolf Bite: Wolves of Willow Bend (pp. 65-66). Heather Long. Kindle Edition.

These two are meant to be together the attraction is palpable.

Then there is Margo the enforcer. She’s been keeping an eye on Alexis even though she’s human. As Ryan’s daughter she is still pack and should be kept safe.

Hiding his relationship with Alexis is hard, and the enforcer can have Mason punished for it. However he has an even bigger problem. One that could only be solved one way.

Full of love, determination, laughs and tears, you won’t be able to put this one down.

Strong Silent SEAL – SEALs of Coronado Book 2 By Paige Tyler

Strong Silent SEAL
SEALs of Coronado Book2
By
Paige Tyler

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

Wedding planner Felicia Bradford is in trouble. Mercenaries are holding her sister hostage and threatening to kill her unless Felicia helps them steal top secret information from the Navy’s Special Operations Headquarters. Having no other way to access the base, she pulls a gun on the first man in a Navy uniform she finds, demanding he get her through the gate.

Navy SEAL Logan Dunn just got back from a mission in Syria and is looking for a little down time to relax. That plan goes out the window when a beautiful woman shoves a gun in his back and begs him to do something she clearly doesn’t want to do. Logan does what any Navy SEAL would do in the same situation—he saves the girl and takes out the bad guys.

But their actions that day kick off a crazy chain of events, including a fast-burning whirlwind romance, an out-of-control sister, an insane covert plot involving a defecting Russian pilot, a mercenary bent on revenge, and a sunrise wedding for a bride who never wakes up before noon.

Getting through her sister’s kidnapping will look like a piece of cake compared to what comes next.

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogo

This is one of my absolute favorites of this series.

When Felicia ‘kidnaps’ Logan his instincts are on the money. He could have prevented her from succeeding but he followed it through, he needed intel to help her out of whatever situation she found herself in.

Nothing like starting this book off with a kidnapping. This is a favorite scene after Logan and his team get her and her sister out of their very sticky situation and all the questioning is done.

His idea of a little while turned out to be another hour, but at least Logan hung around with Felicia while they waited. Now she and Stef were safe, she could fully appreciate how gorgeous he was. Not to mention what a nice guy he was. She didn’t know if it was because they’d gone through a life-and-death experience together, but standing there in the hallway talking about inconsequential everyday things, she felt like she’d known him for years.

“You want a ride back to the grocery store where you left your car?” Logan asked after the CIA finally finished up with Stef. When Felicia gave him a questioning look, he added, “One of my buddies drove my SUV over here from the warehouse.”

She hadn’t even thought about his SUV—or hers—until now. “In that case, yes. If it’s not too much trouble.”

It hadn’t sounded nearly as ridiculous when she said it in her head. Like she hadn’t caused him enough trouble already by taking him hostage.

But Logan smiled. “No trouble at all.”

They didn’t say much on the way back to the shopping center. Probably because they were all tired. Heck, Stef looked like she might nod off in the backseat. Felicia couldn’t blame her. It had been one hell of a day. She was just glad her sister was okay.

Felicia turned around to face front again when she caught sight of the grocery bags on the floorboard.

“Crap,” she said, looking at Logan. “You have ice cream back there.”

“Damn. I completely forgot about it.” He cringed. “It’s probably a big gooey mess. The hot dogs probably didn’t fare so well either.”

She blinked. “You eat hot dogs?”

Even wearing a uniform, she could tell how his biceps to see if she was right was so strong, she practically had to sit on her hands to keep from giving in.

Luckily, Logan didn’t seem to notice. Instead, he gave her an injured look. “What’s wrong with hot dogs?”

“Nothing, I suppose,” she said. “I assumed you’d be more of a lean protein guy.”

He let out a chuckle. “Lean protein means cooking, and cooking’s above my pay grade. Unless it’s in a microwave. I can handle that.”

She laughed. She still couldn’t understand how he could have a body like his on a diet of hot dogs and Hot Pockets. The image gave her an idea though.

“I figured out how to repay you for what you did for Stef and me,” she said. “I’m going to make you dinner.”

In reality, it didn’t even begin to cover what she owed him. She wasn’t sure if anything ever could. But a home-cooked meal was the least she could do.

“You don’t have to do that,” he insisted. “I don’t expect anything in return for today.”

He was humble, all right. It was a quality that made him even more attractive.

“I know,” she said. “But I want to.”

Logan flashed her a smile as he turned into the parking lot of the shopping center. “Okay, sounds good.”

Felicia relaxed in her seat, relieved—and more than a little thrilled—he’d accepted her invitation. She would have asked him to follow her back to her place right then, but that meant bailing on her sister, and she wanted to spend some time with Stef to make sure she was okay after what happened today.

“Next Friday work for you?” she asked Logan.

“Definitely.” He glanced at her, his mouth curving into a sexy grin and making her pulse skip a beat. “I can’t wait.”

She smiled. “Me, either.”
Tyler, Paige. Strong Silent SEAL (SEALs of Coronado Book 2) (pp. 45-47). Kindle Edition.

Of course this isn’t the end of everything, not with one of the bad guys missing.

Felicia and Logan hit it off hot and heavy but the threat is still out there and worries for her sister make this even more intense.

Fast paced, witty, romantic and suspenseful, you won’t be able to put this book down.

Prairie Passion – Cowboys of The Flint Hills Book 2 By Tessa Layne

Prairie Passion
Cowboys of the Flint Hills Book 2
By
Tessa Layne

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

Out of the Frying Pan

Brodie Sinclaire, the youngest and wildest of the Sinclaire brothers, has just been given an ultimatum. Settle down and run the hunting lodge his brothers have built, or find a new job – on another ranch. His first order of business is to find a cook who will last more than a week. He gets more than he bargained for when the cook he hires turns out to be his sister-in-law’s best friend, fiery redhead and Cordon Bleu trained chef, Jamey O’Neill.

And Into the Fire

In the span of a week Jamey O’Neill has lost everything. Her boyfriend, her restaurant, and her career – thanks to a devastating health diagnosis. Broke, and desperate to make a fresh start, she agrees to help the Sinclaires get their hunting lodge off the ground. The last thing she needs is a deliciously handsome cowboy getting under her skin and bossing her in the kitchen.

Can They Handle the Heat?

They can’t deny their chemistry is explosive, and Brodie sets out to prove himself to the feisty chef. But can they handle the heat when Brodie is forced to face his past and Jamey wrestles with her future?

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

Jamey has made a really big mistake professionally by not having a contract with her partner/boyfriend. Now with an unexpected diagnosis of celiac disease, she can’t tolerate any form of gluten and loses everything she worked so hard for.

Brodie has been put in charge of the new hunting lodge, but he’s lost quite a few chefs and his brother’s at his wits end. An ultimatum is issued and the new Chef is on the way.

A phone call from Maddie changes everything for Jamey. Now she has a job but when she hears she’s going to be working and living with Brodie she’s not so sure anymore. Can she work with Brody without giving in to her feelings for him?

This is a favorite scene, the initial confrontation between Jamey and Brodie.

“I’m serious about the kitchen, Brodie,” she shot back over her shoulder. “The state of the kitchen when I arrived violated at least a dozen health department regulations.”

“Aww come on. It wasn’t that bad.”

She spun back toward him. “Are you blind? Did you happen to notice the grease and grime on every surface? I wasted two and a half hours scrubbing this place from tip to toe. And then I wasted even more time in town paying full-price for groceries. This is a commercial kitchen, hotshot. Where are the wholesale vendors? Where are the daily deliveries?”

He shrugged. “Well it’s only me and the crew right now.”

She glowered at him, leaning over the island. “That’s still no way to run a kitchen. You set it up right from the start.”

A flush burned in his chest, spreading up his neck. What did she know about any of this? She was a city chef with no clue how things were done out here.

He threw up his hands. “Welcome to the boonies, darlin’. We don’t do things like you’re used to in the big city.”

She slapped her hands on the island. “Well get ready because there are kitchen rules to follow, big city or not, and one of them is making sure the chef has ingredients.

He leaned forward, placing his hands on the island and putting his face inches from hers. Quite possibly a mistake, given the way his pulse ratcheted up.

“Now just a stinkin’ minute, lady. You want to talk rules? You stole my truck. Out here that’s a firing offense.”

She moved her face a fraction closer to his. “Then it’s a good thing I don’t work for you.”

“Wanna bet?”

Her eyes flashed fire. And this close, he noticed gold flecks in her irises.

“I’d never work for you. I work for Blake.”

He flexed his fingers on the stainless, every cell in his body going taut.

“My lodge. My rules.”

“My kitchen. My rules.”

She sounded breathless. Hell, was she as turned on as he was?

Only one way to find out.

Quick as a wink, he thrust a hand through her curls, tugging her head across the remaining few inches that separated their faces, bringing his mouth to hers.

Her lips were as soft and sensual as he remembered. Her mouth as hot. He flicked his tongue along her opening, demanding entry. With a soft noise in the back of her mouth that went straight to his cock, she opened, her tongue meeting his, continuing a physical battle where their verbal sparring left off.

He’d be damned if she bested him in this arena. Moving his other hand to her cheek, he caressed down her neck as his tongue slid along hers, tasting and sucking.

Goddamn.

Kissing her was so much hotter in person than in his dreams.

Like fire and lightning rolled into one. And as he deepened the kiss, she clutched his bicep, branding him with her touch. Need swirled in his groin, and if his crew wasn’t due back any second, he had half a mind to haul her up on the island and fuck her silly right here.

Before he was ready, she groaned, her lips from his, and leaned back, panting. She stood there, eyes flashing with a mixture of lust and anger, hair swirling around her head like a red demon halo.

“Get. Out. Of. My. Kitchen.”

He flashed her a crooked grin, still trying to get his dick under control. “Whatever you say, Chef.

He spun on his heel and headed for the shower.
Layne, Tessa. Prairie Passion: Cowboys of the Flint Hills (pp. 55-57). Shady Layne Media. Kindle Edition.

Oh what a tangled web. Jamey hasn’t told anyone about her illness, and is doing a gluten free kitchen. A very successful one at that, and a little help from Dottie with biscuits.

Then there’s Brodie who has the biggest secret of all. The problem is his secret could ruin the business.

I couldn’t stop reading, these two are hysterical together. Oh and the heat between them is kindle melting. Moving on to the next book, I love the progression.

Grizzly Perfection – Arcadian Bears Book 6 By Becca Jameson

Grizzly Perfection
Arcadian Bears Book 6
By
Becca Jameson

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

The scent of her mate was in the air…

When Adriana lifted her head and scented her mate for the first time, the world stopped spinning. She’d never met him, but she knew exactly who he was. Nolan Osborn. He was right outside. And then he wasn’t.

He could not risk her life…

Nolan’s heart skipped a beat as he stepped from the car. He had no idea who belonged to the scent that would change his life, but he couldn’t risk meeting her tonight. His life was in danger. He would not risk hers as well.

But he was not her only option…

When Reid got the call that his best friend needed him, he didn’t hesitate. Nolan’s mate was in danger, and she needed a bodyguard. It was an easy job. And then it wasn’t.

This could not be happening.

Grizzly shifters mated in pairs.

Why would Fate put two men in Adriana’s path, forcing her to choose?

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogo

In the world of grizzlies, finding your mate should be a blessing. Adriana felt the pull, but then the source vanishes.

Nolan couldn’t enter the gathering to see his parents, his mate was in there and he couldn’t put her in danger. He would have to protect her at all costs.

Reid doesn’t hesitate, his friend needs him to guard over his mate. What he didn’t expect was to feel the mating pull to her.

No one could be more shocked than Adrianna, how could she be possibly have two mates? It was unheard of they would be outcasts.

This is a favorite scene when Reid brings Adrianna to meet Nolan.

Reid took two quick strides toward the armchair and lowered into it, his gaze on Adriana. “Let me,” he said.

She shook her head. “No. This needs to come from me.” She turned her body to more fully face Nolan and rubbed her hands on her thighs, shivering as if the room were cold.

Nolan’s face fell. “Shit. What’s the matter?” He glanced back and forth between them. “Did someone follow you here?”

Reid shook his head. “No. It’s not that.”

“Nolan,” Adriana said almost harshly. He met her gaze again and swallowed hard. “There’s no easy way to say this, so I’m just going to do it.”

He didn’t move.

She couldn’t imagine what he must have been thinking. “I have the same connection with Reid that I have with you.”

For a heartbeat, no one moved or spoke. It was like the world froze and then jerked back into rotation. “What?” His gaze darted to Reid and then back again. “What do you mean?”

“She means that the second I showed up at your parents’ house, we felt the same bond the two of you felt last night.”

Nolan’s back straightened. He blinked a few times while his head turned back toward her. He lifted a hand and ran it through his hair.

She wished she knew him better, at least well enough to anticipate what he might do or feel, but she didn’t know either of these men. All she knew was that she wanted both of them. Equally. And she was losing her mind.

There was no doubt. Her body was on fire. For both men. Insanity. Her breasts were swollen to the point of being sore. She had to clench her legs together to keep the throbbing need at bay. Though it was possible she was getting the opposite result.

“That’s crazy. Whoever heard of such a thing? Adriana?” He lifted a hand, albeit unsteadily, and cupped her face again. His thumb stroked her cheek gently.

An unbidden tear welled up in her eye and escaped to run down her other cheek as she tried to control the grip her emotions had on her heart.

His face changed several times while he processed everything. At least she never saw anger among his emotions. His voice was lower, too steady when he spoke again. “You feel the
same exact connection to both of us?”

“Yes.” It was true. It was also eating her from the inside. She wanted to run from the room. She also wanted to be held, and she didn’t care who held her as long as they chased away the chill and assured her everything would be okay.

“Reid?” Nolan looked at his friend again.

“I’m so sorry, man. You know I had no control over this any more than you did. It just happened. I offered to drive away. I feel like a shit, as if I slept with your girlfriend behind your back or something.”

Nolan winced.

Reid rushed to speak again. “Figure of speech. That didn’t come out right. Believe me. I didn’t let my feelings take control of my actions. We drove here in near silence.”
Jameson, Becca. Grizzly Perfection: A Paranormal Shifter Menage Romance (Arcadian Bears Book 6) (Kindle Locations 741-764). Hartwood Publishing. Kindle Edition.

With Nolan in protective custody and the arrest of his client bringing more shady things to the table, Reid tries to protect Addy.

The mate bond is tugging at all of them and the answers aren’t clear as to whether or not this is acceptable.

Fast paced, amusing, and sexy. Don’t miss this book.

It’s Back with a New Cover and Available Everywhere! Protecting Kiera – SEAL of Protection Book 9 by Susan Stoker

Protecting Kiera
SEAL of Protection Book 9
By
Susan Stoker

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

Summer Blurb

This book was previously published in Kindle Worlds and even though it has a new cover, has not changed significantly.

Cooper Nelson’s SEAL career was cut drastically short when an explosion left him almost completely deaf. With so much of his pride and self-worth tied to the profession he loved above all else, Coop struggles in his nearly silent new world, his future seemingly bleak…until Commander Hurt badgers him into volunteering at the Riverton School for the Deaf. There, he meets teacher Kiera Hamilton, who opens his eyes—and his heart—to a love more fulfilling than any job could be.

Ten years his senior, Kiera can’t believe Coop would ever be interested in anything long term, but he patiently proves her wrong. And she’s not the only one enamored with the sexy former-SEAL—her impressionable first-grade students are enthralled with the man, especially Frankie. The troubled young boy flourishes with each of Cooper’s visits, which only makes Kiera fall harder.

As he learns ASL, connects with the students, and gets closer to Kiera, Coop’s happier than he’s ever been…until an attempted abduction at the school threatens to take away everything that makes his new life worth living.

Summer My Review

Cooper like all the SEALs has been devoted to protecting his country. Forced to retire when an explosion takes out his hearing he is struggling. At first he isn’t happy to volunteer at the School for the Deaf, but that quickly changes. He meets Kiera a first grade teacher, and his interest is peaked in a romantic way.

This is one of my favorite scenes when Cooper visits Kiera’s classroom for the first time.

Just when Kiera was about to tell the children to get back to work, a little boy sitting in the back of the classroom slowly raised his hand. She hid her surprise. Frankie was small for his age and wasn’t making much progress. He was very reluctant to sign and hadn’t made any friends in the class since he’d been there. He frequently resorted to pushing the kids in his class when he couldn’t understand them or when he wanted his way.

Kiera knew his attitude was a result of his tumultuous home life and starting in a new school and her heart hurt for him. Frankie’s father was excited about the chance for his son to be in the special school. They’d moved down to Riverton from Los Angeles for a fresh start after a contentious divorce. His ex-wife was a drug addict who was deemed unfit to have custody of their son. Until recently, she’d been allowed to have supervised visitations with Frankie, but after slipping away from the court-ordered supervisor and taking Frankie to the mall to a drug drop, she’d had all parental rights stripped from her.

Kiera understood that the little boy was probably having issues dealing with all the upheaval in his life, but it had been two months since he’d started school and he wasn’t getting any better. The fact that he’d engaged enough to raise his hand and ask a question was almost a miracle at this point.

She pointed at the skinny boy and signed, “Yes, Frankie?”

He mostly used the alphabet to spell out his question, but it was understandable, if not painful to wait for him to get through.

Kiera swallowed and flicked her eyes to Cooper before repeating the question for the rest of the class. “Frankie asked what his tough military friends thought of Cooper using his hands to speak in such a sissy way.”

A few of the kids gasped and whipped their heads around to gaze at Frankie with wide eyes. Kiera hadn’t realized that was what Frankie thought of sign language. It was as heartbreaking as it was shocking.

Bless Cooper, he didn’t even blink at the question. He got up and went over to where Frankie was sitting. When he got there, he sat on his butt and awkwardly crossed his legs. Then he proceeded to blow Kiera’s mind.

He used mostly finger spelling, as Frankie had, and not once did he look to Kiera for a sign. “My friends are jealous that I have my own secret language. Believe it or not, Frankie, my team had our own hand signals for stuff. This,” he made a movement with his hands that Kiera didn’t recognize, “meant danger. And this,” he did it again, making another sign that clearly wasn’t American Sign Language, “meant bad guy ahead. I don’t know who told you that sign language was sissy, but it absolutely isn’t. It’s cool. The coolest thing I’ve ever tried to learn. I can talk to you, your classmates, or Ms. Hamilton, and people who aren’t deaf can’t understand me. It’s like being an undercover spy right under people’s noses. I love knowing a secret language, even if I’m not very good at it yet.”

If Kiera hadn’t been watching Frankie carefully, she would’ve missed it, but his eyes got big and she could literally see the knowledge that a big, strong man like Cooper thought sign language was cool sinking into his psyche.

She’d tried for months to get Frankie to show an ounce of interest in anything she did or said, to no avail. But with one painstakingly finger-spelled answer, Cooper had somehow bonded with the young boy in a way she’d rarely seen before.
Swallowing hard so she wouldn’t burst into tears, Kiera waved her hand in the air to get the children’s attention. She sighed, “Now that we have all met Cooper, time to get back to your lessons.”

The kids all nodded and shuffled back to various places around the room with their tablets. There were beanbags strewn around the classroom, as well as small couches, and big fluffy rugs… more than enough choices for the children to settle in comfortably somewhere.

She looked over at Frankie and Cooper and caught the tail end of Cooper’s question to the little boy. “…me sit with you while you read?”

Frankie nodded his head and Kiera watched in awe as Cooper and her troublemaker student shifted so they were sitting facing each other, knees touching, with the tablet off to their right. Frankie reached out and turned it on, activating the story he’d been reading before the interruption.
Stoker, Susan. Brotherhood Protectors: Protecting Kiera (Kindle Worlds Novella) (SEAL of Protection Book 10) (Kindle Locations 485-521). Kindle Worlds. Kindle Edition.

While Kiera had struggled not to cry I didn’t have the same luck. Get your tissues you’re going to need them. Now none of these SEALS have had an easy time with love and Coop’s no different. Hold onto your kindle and get swept away into this story.

Once again Susan has hit on problems in today’s world and done it with finesse and tact.
