Silly man, he thinks he can resist, but once a lioness sets her sights on a man, paws off! And if anyone thinks to try and take him… There’s a reason why the ladies of the pride win the yearly award for Baddest Biatches.

Summer My Review

Every time I read one of this series I start off with a giggle that becomes a full blown, hurts the stomach, laugh. I absolutely love the lionesses and Luna is one of the snarkiest and most fun. This one starts off in full swing for Luna, she has to work with the Alpha Wolf Jeoff and she wants him in other ways too. Unfortunately for her Jeoff has sworn off any and all lionesses, but will work with her to help find the missing pride and pack members. This is a favorite scene right at the beginning of the book.

This is the life. Luna didn’t care what anybody said. Nothing could compare to the enjoyment of sunbathing in a warm patch of sunlight while the chill of fall gripped the city outside.

She stretched on the fabric-covered pile of cushions, extending all of her limbs, practically purring in delight as the rays of brilliant sunshine streamed through the large plate-glass window of the condo.

“What the fuck are you doing?” The shocked male voice didn’t startle her. Noisy wolf. She’d heard him coming for a while. He really needed to work on his stealth technique.

Exhibiting a laziness that usually only a male lion could achieve, Luna opened an eye and peered at the man standing, arms folded over his chest, across the room. He glared— how cute. “Hi, Jeoff.”

“Don’t you hi Jeoff me. What the hell are you doing in my apartment? Naked.”

He’d noticed. Point. “I’m naked because it turns out you have a delightful afternoon spot, right about here.” She indulged in a long stretch atop the cushions that she’d yanked off his couch and upon which she lay with her arms and legs extended. The pose pulled her tanned skin taut. Tanned with no lines, she should add. She’d recently gotten some time on a beach for a job in the south. It was a shifter-friendly locale and clothing optional.

“You do realize that the folks in the building across from here can see straight in.”

How positively titillating. “Are they watching, do you think?” Luna rolled to her stomach and peered out the floor-to-ceiling glass window. She waved, but with the sun streaming in, couldn’t tell if anyone watched and waved back.

A heavy sigh let her know Jeoff still stood behind her. As if she could miss his presence. Jeoff wasn’t the kind of guy a girl could ignore. And not just because he reeked of dog. Dog as in a wolf shifter, not a true canine, although the two species did smell remarkably alike.

But she could forgive his furry fault because he was the standoffish hottie everyone wanted to bang. Like seriously, anyone with a pulse wanted to strip and ride Jeoff cowgirl style. He had only himself to blame. Tall, much taller than her, Jeoff had broad shoulders but a lean build, an athletic build with defined muscle. He wasn’t like the lions in her pride, all beefed up and impressed with himself. While a touch nerdy with his glasses and three-piece suit— the glasses a bit of a superhero accessory to his public persona— Jeoff was all man. And an uptight prude.

“If your naked ass ends up on the Internet, don’t come yowling to me.”
When A Lioness Snarls (A Lion’s Pride Book 5) (pp. 1-2). Kindle Edition.

Then they get down to the reasons she was in his apartment. I’m kind of with Jeoff on this one, she could have called or waited until he was home, but hey much more fun this way.

As they begin their search one thing stands out. There is no scent of an outsider. A new club in town. No one knows the owner. Leads to an investigation that changes everything. I wasn’t expecting what they found, really surprised me.

I loved this book from beginning to end. I laughed held my breath and I may have sniffled a time or two.

Summer Blurb

Renting out the apartment over his garage shouldn’t be a life-changing decision, but when Delta soldier Cormac “Fletch” Fletcher meets Emily Grant, he feels an instant connection. He can’t stand the thought of Emily and her young daughter living anywhere unsafe. Offering cheap rent is a small price to pay for their safety…and Fletch’s peace of mind.

Being a single mother is difficult at best, but renting the extremely affordable space from Fletch makes Emily’s life a lot easier…until it doesn’t. Suddenly all the money she’s saving thanks to Fletch’s generosity is going into the hands of a blackmailer. And what little food Emily can afford goes to her daughter Annie, so the girl doesn’t go to bed hungry…leaving Emily weaker and weaker.

When miscommunication has Emily assuming Fletch is in on the blackmail, he not only has to gain her trust, but also deal with a man holding a grudge against Fletch and his entire Delta Force team. A task made more difficult when the dangerous man gets his hands on Emily and Annie…

** Rescuing Emily is the 2nd book in the Delta Force Heroes Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

Summer My Review

One thing I never quite expected is the good guys v. other good guys. However, that’s how they train. In order to be the best you train, hard and often. I never thought of grown men being jealous of one another in this way. Not that it really surprises me, what did surprise was the lengths the bad guy went to try to achieve his goal.

I loved Fletch from the beginning of the story, and the way he lowered the rent for her was so awesome. Emily’s daughter Annie is so smart and so adorable. One of my favorite scenes is before all goes to hell and we discover just how smart Annie is.

“The code is two-six-four-three-seven. When you come in, hit those numbers, then the green button. That will disarm the alarm. When you leave, hit the same numbers, two-six-four-three-seven, then the red button. You have one minute to get out of the house when you leave and to punch in the numbers when you enter. If you’ll be in here for any length of time— feel free to watch a movie or whatever— hit the same numbers, two-six-four-three-seven, and the yellow button. That will arm the house, but the motion sensors inside won’t be activated so you can walk around freely without worrying about setting it off. Got it? Want to practice?”

“Uh… yeah, although I still don’t think this is a great idea. I didn’t know you had motion sensors.

” Fletch watched as Emily nervously keyed in the numbers and set the alarm. Then she punched in the same buttons and hit the green button to turn it off.

“You got it. Easy. I told you.”

“That’s if I remember the numbers,” Emily joked.

“It’s easy, Mommy,” Annie told her. “It’s my name.”

“What?”

“My name. Well, it’s spelled sorta wrong, but it could still be my name.”

Fletch crouched down so he could look Annie in the eye. “How’s it spelled, sprite?” Fletch thought to humor the little girl.

“A-N-I-E-S. Like it’s mine, but with only one N instead of two.”

“What are you talking about, Annie?” Emily asked in confusion.

Annie looked at Fletch and whispered, “It’s like the Indian code talkers… it’s code. We learnded about them in school.”

“The Navajo code talkers?” Fletch asked.

“Uh-huh.”

“You wanna let me in on the secret code?”

Annie nodded solemnly. “It’s the phone code.”

Fletch looked into Annie’s blue eyes. She’d leaned into him so trustingly. It was then that he realized exactly how smart Emily’s little girl was. “The phone code. Yeah, you’re right. It is.”

“Do one of you want to enlighten me?” Emily asked, crossing her arms over her chest. Watching the handsome man who she thought about way too often kneeling on the ground, talking with her daughter as if she wasn’t abnormally smart, was making her heart pound and making her wish for things that were probably only dreams.

“Should we let her in on the secret code?” Fletch asked Annie playfully and winked at her.

She giggled. “Yeah, she’s mommy, I think she should know.”
Fletch nodded in agreement. “Yeah, keeping secrets from Mommy isn’t a good thing.” He looked up at Emily. “The phone code. Each number on a phone has certain letters assigned to it. For example, the number two has A, B and C. The number three has D, E and F, and so on.”

Annie picked up where Fletch left off. “Yeah, and four is G, H, and I. So the number to his code two-six-four-three-seven can spell lots of things, but one thing it spells is Anie’s… with one N instead of two.”

Emily looked down at her daughter, dumbfounded. Jesus, she had to look into getting her into a gifted school.

Fletch ruffled Annie’s hair as he stood up. “You’re one smart cookie.”

“I know,” Annie told him, smiling.

“Seriously, I said it before,” Fletch told Emily, “but please don’t hesitate to come over if you want to watch a movie or something. You can put my mail on the counter in the kitchen. I don’t think you’ll forget the code now, will you?”

“No, I don’t think I will,” Emily agreed, still a little shell-shocked after hearing proof of how smart her daughter really was.

“Good. I’ll let you keep that key for whenever you might need it. Come on, I’ll walk you back to your place.”
Stoker, Susan. Rescuing Emily (Delta Force Heroes Book 2) (Kindle Locations 515-543).

Emily and Annie are the best, and Fletch is well an Alpha Delta Force Male. Emily made so many assumptions it was almost painful to read. So many misunderstandings, on both their parts. I was in tears for all of them before I was half way through.

Fletch’s team with Ghost and Rayne, Truck, Coach, Hollywood, Beatle, and Blade were amazing as always in this. Of course we also get a peek at Tex and Melody but the best was “hearing” Beth. If you’ve read the books you know who I am talking about. If you haven’t GO READ!

Before you start reading this book, go get a box of tissues and lots to drink, you will need all of it.

I can’t wait for more in this series, there is just so much to love!

Summer My Review

This story really points to the psychological damage that Magnum had done to his wolves. Ven has a need to stay strong and dominant. Not allowing himself to feel any real emotion thanks to his Uncle’s unrelenting “care”.

Caitlyn on the other hand has the supporting family, all dominant to her omega self. The damage Magnum did to her was physical as well as psychological. It takes her sister-in-law Hannah to point out the fact that her family was actually hindering her recovery. So much in fact that the incident lives in all there minds even though it occurred 10 years ago.

When Caitlyn meets Ven they both know they are mates, she flees and he chases. He doesn’t feel worthy of her or any mate but he will protect her and soothe her, all while pushing her away. This is a favorite scene that occurs after Caitlyn sticks her head out her window in an effort to soothe a panic attack.
“Relax, Little Red. Feel my breath, feel the rise and fall of my chest. Hush now, my heart.” He murmured reassurance to her over and over again until gradually her body yielded, melting into his. Their breathing rose and fell in sweet harmony and a sense of peace, of utter rightness stole over Ven.

“I’m so sorry.” The words were barely a whisper but they struck his heart deep. Tucking her closer, he pressed his lips against the creamy, soft skin of her shoulder.

“Don’t be sorry, Caitlyn. Don’t you ever apologize for how that bastard made you feel. I’ll never demand more of you than you can freely give me. Never,” he vowed. His wolf gave a soft growl of agreement.

“You must be cursing the fates, Ven. I’m a poor excuse for a mate.” She sighed. The irony of her words twisted like a knife in his heart. “That makes two of us, Little Red. Now go to sleep.”

Brushing another soft kiss against her skin, he allowed himself to relax as her breathing slowed and she drifted off to sleep. She felt so good in his arms, so right. He would allow himself a few hours to indulge in the idea this could be his life if he chose it. He could sleep beside his mate every night, keep her safe from harm and let her sweet kind nature smooth the roughness in his soul.

Ven closed his eyes and smiled without humor. A fool’s dream in a world as harsh as theirs. A fool’s dream it would remain.

Making a soft noise in her sleep, Caitlyn struggled a little against the tight grip of his arms. He slackened his hold and was rewarded when she turned in her sleep, almost climbing on top of him in her unconscious desire to get as close as possible. Her arm slid over his shoulder, fingers curling into the thick mass of his hair.

He raised his hand, gliding his palm down her spine in soft sweeps and she nuzzled her face into his shoulder with a sigh, muttering a few nonsense words.

He was in Heaven.

He was in Hell.
A Mate’s Redeeming Touch (Black Hills Wolves #44) (Kindle Locations 425-441). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

In spite of all the reasons Ven has for why he shouldn’t mate with her, Caitlyn persists.  Using every ounce of courage she has to win over her mate.

Dirty Dancing references had me giggling and I shed more than a couple of tears. I love this addition to the Black Hills Wolves as we see more healing within this pack.

Summer My Review

This book starts off with a bang, both literally and figuratively. Looking for someone to help them with the chips they have implanted, the consensus is that Dr Ilsa Blaine is the best choice. Even better she is a friend of Rory’s. Rory makes a lunch date with her to try to convince her to help them, that’s when all hell breaks loose. This is a favorite scene when Ilsa first sees Garrett during their escape.
Something crashed against the metal door and Ilsa flattened herself against the wall. Rory spun in a half-circle and stared at the door. A furred face appeared in the tempered glass window—a face that wasn’t remotely human. A roar of fury pounded against Ilsa’s ears and she shoved her hand against her mouth to keep the scream at bay. Keen intelligence shimmered in the creature’s eyes and hate surged in it as the beast ignored Rory and glared at Ilsa.

“What the fuck are you?” Rory’s murmured question, so obviously not directed at her, kickstarted Ilsa’s brain from fear to analysis.

“Section Ten—this is the no man’s land. We need to get out of here.” R.E.X. Labs experimented in any number of weaponized options, from super soldiers to super technology. But not all of their experiments were successful and some were downright dangerous. Section Ten required clearance on the highest levels—despite the Director’s one time offer to bring her aboard these elite projects, Ilsa had refused.

She was a pacifist at heart. She preferred working with animals.

The creature roared again. “Rory, we need to go.” Ice slithered along her spine. Bile burned her throat.

“Yeah, we’re going.” By mutual consent, they jogged up the last twenty-eight steps, the beast’s roars following them to an impenetrable looking steel door, crisscrossed by sensors.

“We can’t get out this way.” Ilsa sagged against the wall. She could barely catch her breath. Every shallow pant lanced more flame into her already oxygen-starved lungs. Fingers against her wrist, she shuddered at the rapid-fire speed of her pulse. One hundred and fifty beats per minute was too fast. She needed to slow it down. The heart murmur she’d been diagnosed with as a child pinched with every squeeze.

“Back up a step.” Rory pulled her away from the door and pushed her against the other wall. “Head down.”

Wild fear raced through her,  and she ducked obediently. Ozone scorched the air and metal ground on metal. The sound ripped through the silence, halting even the mad pounding of boots and the creature’s roars below. Sunlight blinded her as Rory tugged her back into motion. A figure, bigger than the insane guard below, stared at them through the now melted door. Melted.

A heavy portion of steel flowed like slag, hardening into a shapeless blob against the frame. Jerking her gaze up, she stared into the most potently beautiful green eyes she’d ever seen. They shimmered in the too bright light—as though suffused from the inside out. Her breath clogged in her throat and her heart felt like it had paused mid-beat, only to thump again with more brutal force.

“Give the doctor to me. The captain wants you off the roof.” He extended a leather-clad arm, his fingers stretched expectantly. She would never want to meet this man in a dark alley—or anywhere there wasn’t a lot of light for that matter. Beyond the exquisite beauty of his eyes was a raw tension in his face, both fierce and frightening. Her insides went liquid with the most curious sensation, but a slam from below drove any analysis away. Maybe her mind had snapped under the pressure, but she trusted this man and she took the hand he offered.
The Judas Contact (Kindle Locations 318-342). All Romance eBooks LLC. Kindle Edition.

The concept of her initial research with pets being put to use in humans both appalled and intrigued Ilsa. Eager to study these chips and the people in which they are implanted a lab is set up for her. To everyone’s surprise Garrett agrees to be her test subject. The only problem, he is toxic, just a touch can kill. There is also an undeniable attraction between them and he needs to protect her even from himself.

Action packed with spellbinding anticipation. With lots of romance and sizzle too.  I just couldn’t stop reading until I reached the end.

Summer My Review

As the divemaster’s prepare to set sail again with a new tour for deserving people, funded by the Banks Foundation, a new twist gets added. After consulting with the “boys” Banks has invited Dr Sabine Reynolds aboard to continue her mentor’s research into a new cancer treatment. Only problem she is starting from scratch.

OMG from the moment Miguel sets eyes on her the heat level started escalating. I think I may have melted. I have to say though when they get to the yacht and he takes charge, just Wow. This is one of my favorite scenes.
“Hey, not quite yet.” Miguel shook her lightly when he returned. “I should have kept a closer eye on you knowing how tired you are. Jesus. Spend my life making sure tourists don’t drown and I almost let a woman go under in my fucking tub.”

Before she could reassure him she was fine, he had stripped, making it impossible to speak.

Instead, she beheld a living, breathing work of art finer than any she’d spotted during their trek to his cabin, or even had seen in Europe’s most famous museums, which she’d loved to visit on weekends with Marta.

No fig leaf was going to cover allllllll of that.

Sabine swallowed hard.

Miguel grinned. “You drooling over this dinner or what?”

She splashed him. “Hey, be nice or I won’t show you what Maria whipped up for you.” He took a long skinny tray from where he’d leaned it up against the wall, and laid it across the tub. Then he set a covered silver platter in the center. Two wineglasses followed, along with a decanter of something that smelled expensive even from several feet away.

Two glasses?
Mmm. He looked good enough to eat.

The scent of lemon butter and fresh lobster pried her attention from his form momentarily. “Is that…?”

“Yep.” He nodded, then unveiled the treat along with some rice pilaf, asparagus sticks, and a salad. “We caught them when we went spear fishing earlier. Dig in.”

Sabine had already lunged for her silverware.

The first bite tasted divine. The warm, delicious food filled her empty belly.

“This is seriously the best thing I’ve ever put in my mouth.” She hummed, then took another nibble.

“It’ll only hold that record for another twelve hours or so.” Miguel watched her lips, finally breaking his stare to glance down in the general vicinity of his cock, as if he were making the big guy a promise.

Laughter. She couldn’t believe it was coming from her. In the midst of a crisis, she’d met a gorgeous, if crazy, man who ate lobster in a bathtub with her and cracked her up. Who was she to question the way life went sometimes?
Going Deep: Divemasters, Book 2 (Kindle Locations 556-573). Happy Endings Publishing.

It just gets better and hotter from here. Even with the serious business of trying to reconstruct the research of her mentor, Miquel manages to keep her from overdoing it. Always attentive and in tune with what she needs.

Frustration is the name of the game from the moment they start the testing of samples from various reefs. I really didn’t expect Sabine’s revelation to come right after doing a scene in the Club room with Miquel. I wouldn’t have thought she could do anything after that.

Their were laughs and lots of tears in this book all combined with some of the hottest scenes I have ever read. Be sure to have lots of tissues and water handy when you settle in to read this. You won’t be able to put it down.

But with Alex guarding her so fiercely yet looking at her so tenderly, she’s never felt safer . . . or more terrified that the secrets she keeps could put countless people in grave peril. The only way for both to fully escape their demons will take the ultimate act of courage: letting go and learning to trust each other.

Summer My Review

I absolutely love this series. Hope’s Crossing Kennels is a place I would love to work. Not that Cruz would put up with me.

Elisa is running from her fiancé. The reason she is running stems from the fact that no one believes her. He is controlling and getting abusive. Not even the police would help her. Every time she thinks she is safe he finds her. Every. Single. Time. When she runs into Alex with his daughter at an ER, things start changing for her, in a good way.

I truly don’t know which relationship I love more hers with Alex or Souze. Both are extremely rewarding in their own ways.

Eliza also will find there can’t be any secrets for long around these guys and they can and will protect her. As well as find a way to solve her problem.

Another book I couldn’t put down, I can’t wait for the next in this series!

Alex’s hand came up slowly to cradle the side of her face, encouraging her to tilt her head, and she did. He deepened the kiss then, his tongue running across her lips and coaxing them to open for him. She opened with a sigh, and his tongue swept into her mouth, gently tasting. She kissed him back in return, leaning into him until she had one hand braced against his hard chest.

A needy moan escaped her, and he responded in kind. When he lifted his mouth from hers, she almost tipped into him, her knees not holding her upright anymore and her head spinning. Wow.

She took not one, but several long breaths to clear her head, looking down at a black and tan face staring up at her with soulful, dark eyes. Souze wasn’t shy about watching, apparently.

The thought brought her the rest of the way to her senses, because weird. Yeah. Weird.

She took a step back, and Alex let her. He’d done that since the beginning. Letting her go if she wanted. So why was it so hard to leave now even if she kept saying she should?

“Thank you,” she told him, not looking up into his eyes.

“But?” Alex’s voice came cool, deep, and so sexy it just wasn’t fair.

“But I should go. Especially because this is obviously not a professional thing now.”

“No. But none of your previous employers particularly cared if you left, did they?” He sounded reasonable. “Did they bother to try to check on you?”

“Not that I know of.” She said it slowly. She’d had her phone with her, and she’d been checking her e-mail. Both big mistakes, she knew now. But she’d been paid under the table and they didn’t really have a way to contact her after she disappeared.

“I think that’s a little odd.” Rojas lifted his hand, giving her plenty of time to avoid him, and brushed her hair back from her face. “Maybe this time, it wouldn’t hurt to have someone care about whether you disappear.”

The last thing officer Charlie Dunham expects when he returns to his hometown is to tangle with his high school crush, Claire Silver, right off the bat. He’d planned to ignore her entirely— the way she’d always ignored him. But when a mysterious threat puts her in danger, he must step in and save her. It doesn’t take long for him to realize that he’s been lying to himself about his feelings for Claire. He wants her… no matter the cost.

Review Spring Blog - Copy

Gosh I love the prequels to this new series. Hot sexy cowboys, on a ranch, doing your bidding. *Deep Sigh*

More than that, is the attraction that hasn’t faded over the years. If only Dustin could get over the fact that Claire would never be his. A favorite scene is the night after Charlie gave her a ticket his first day on the job. Right after Dustin steps in it.

Claire tipped up her chin and stared at the star-studded sky and unleashed a primal scream. It bounced off the buildings and annoyed several dogs in the opened her mouth and asked, “So do you have a girlfriend?”

Her heart stuttered when he stopped and turned to face her, set his hands on her shoulders and stared into her eyes.

“If I did, would I rescue maidens in distress?”

“I was hardly in distress. But yes. You probably would. You’re a war hero.”

“Am I?” “That’s what Cade says.” “Not dying doesn’t make you a hero, but you’re right. I suppose I would still rescue damsels if I had a girlfriend. But you know what I wouldn’t do?”

“What?” He was so close. His breath skated over her face. His heat reached out to enfold her like a blanket. “What wouldn’t you do?”

“I wouldn’t do this.”

To her shock and delight, he bent his head and he kissed her.

I didn’t expect a lot of this and I certainly didn’t expect the who. Lots of tension, hot sex and even hotter cowboys.

Summer My Review

I’m not quite sure what I expected when I started reading this one. I know it wasn’t for one of the owners of GAPS to go totally off the grid. When he did I expected the worst and I think everyone else did too. Including Zane his partner and his live-in girlfriend Ali.

While he is off doing something that blows my mind with its danger, Ali finds herself pregnant. She took St John’s Wort which rendered her birth control ineffective. Now faced with Jon gone to who knows where, for who knows how long, she prepares herself to be a single mother. The absolute last thing she expects is for him to propose the minute he gets back. This is a favorite scene.
It only proved what he knew already. No one could predict what could happen or when. He could live to a hundred or he could die tomorrow. It was about time he started really living.

“God, I missed you.” The words were barely out before he crushed his mouth against hers.

Overwhelmed by the need to feel safe and alive, he kissed her hard and thoroughly. The long list of miracles that had brought him home mostly unscathed grew by one more when Ali didn’t push him away.

She sank into his kiss, clinging to him through the jacket he’d never taken the time to remove.

He wanted to get her to the bedroom. Wanted the clothes separating them— his damp ones and her warm ones— gone.

But he wanted something else more.

Breaking the kiss, he blurted out the words that would make her his for the rest of his life. “Marry me.”

She pulled back from him.

“What?”

“Marry me.” Now that he’d said it once, the words spilled out even easier.

Her eyes narrowed. “Why are you asking me that now?”

“What?” He was too confused to comprehend her frown or the suspicion in her tone. Wasn’t this what she’d wanted?

“Did you come right here or stop somewhere first?”

Further confused by that question, he said, “I stopped at the office.”

Her nostrils flared. She was mad he went to the office?

He continued, trying to diffuse this bomb while blind. “I had to. My truck was parked in the lot. And my house keys were there too. Ali, I don’t know what’s happening here. All I know is I want to marry you.”

“You didn’t before you left.”

“I did. I just—”

“I can’t be here with you right now.” After cutting him off she moved toward the door.

What the fuck had just happened?

OMG the little things he remembers and surprises her with. I laughed and cried a lot in this one. I really need to go back and read the ones I missed.

Summer My Review

Holy Cow talk about a hold your breath can’t put down book. This one has it all, a mad Alpha, scared siblings and packs, a great Alpha, an Omega and really hot sex.

Troy is sent by his “father” and Alpha to study and plan a takeover of the new pack that has taken up residence in Moonlight. When he fist sees Bel he is surprised that he can’t seem to concentrate on the conversation with her Alpha Derek.

Bel on the other hand can’t seem to stop thinking of all the things she would like him to do to her. As fate would have it he is placed in the cabin next door to her and one thing leads to another and then they get interrupted. This is a favorite scene.
Bel reached for them, seeking to soothe the distress filling the clearing, but she came up empty. She could sense them, could feel the roil of emotions, but it felt like she was encased in amber, separated from her pack by a translucent shield. “What happened?” she asked, although she had a pretty good idea. Tucking her knees up, she curled her arms around them in a protective ball.

Troy roared a sound of incoheincoherent fury and broke away from Kirk, diving to his knees to gather her close against his chest. Exhaustion settled deep inside her limbs, and she turned her face, seeking the warm safety of the curve of his throat. Drawing deep breaths, she used his already-familiar scent to calm her racing mind.

“You projected, Bel,” Derek said, confirming her worst fears. It hadn’t happened for years. Not since she was a teenager struggling to come to terms with her emotional connection to the pack.

“How bad?” she whispered, burrowing nearer to the solid warmth of Troy’s body.

“Depends on your definition of bad,” Rand replied. “If you don’t mind the whole pack knowing you got your world rocked by Mr. Smooth here, then not bad at all.”

The hint of humor in his voice offered a slight balm to the surge of embarrassed horror coursing through her.

“Everyone?”

“Mrs. Meyer sounded very happy when I ran past their place on the way here,” Kirk muttered. “And Silver punched me in the face.”

Oh. God.

Mrs. Meyer was eighty if she was a day, and the idea of Kirk’s sweet, human mate striking him didn’t bear thinking about.

“I’m so sorry, Kirk. Is she okay?”

The big man barked a laugh.

“She’s fine, just mad because I left our bed when she wanted to go again.”

Humiliation burned through her, and she pressed her face deeper into Troy’s shoulder.

“Belinda. Look at me.” She raised her head, obeying the command of her alpha without hesitation. Derek lowered to one knee, ignoring the man beside her, focusing only on Bel. “Are you all right? Did you flame out?” It was a term they’d come up with when she overexerted her emotional abilities.

“I think so. I feel numb. Tired mostly, and more than a little embarrassed.”

Summer My Review

This book progresses over several years documenting the tragedies in Kelsey’s life, and the things that gave her strength. I fell in love with Damien from the moment he started bringing Kelsey food while she was healing from a fall. This is one of my favorite scenes and one that started Kelsey thinking more and more about Damien.
Tom ran to the door and began hissing. Kelsey wondered why he had been acting strange lately. Tom had always been a friendly, mild-tempered cat.“What’s the matter with you, boy?” she softly asked while she hopped to the door. “Who is it?” This time, she raised her voice, so the person could hear her from the other side.“Damien,” the voice answered.

What the hell was he doing here? Instinctively, she flung the door open, and instantly, she regretted it. As he filled her doorway, her heartbeat tripled. She had no idea if it was because he looked gorgeous standing there, or because the dangerous aura radiating out of him terrified her.

“Hello, Kelsey,” Damien drawled.

As the chills ran up and down her spine, Kelsey suddenly realized that she was standing in a mere robe. Hugging it tighter around her, she said, “What are you doing here, Damien?”

“I figured you would be hungry. Being that you are injured, I thought I would stop by with some food. Chinese?” He held up the brown bags to show her.

Kelsey frowned and replied, “Are you serious? It’s late. Probably past ten!”

“Twenty after ten to be precise,” Damien said, smirking.

“I’m going to bed now. You can’t come in.” She had to admit that seeing him in his black trench coat, looking dangerous and sexy, messed with her mind.

“You are going to sleep? I am pretty sure you stay up until the wee hours, Kelsey.” Damien’s voice was so soft, it took a few extra seconds for Kelsey to recover.

Swallowing hard, she said, “Well, you wouldn’t really know that about me. As a matter of fact, you don’t know me at all. Just like I don’t know you. And, I don’t like people I don’t know to just stop by whenever they feel like it—especially this time of the night. Thank you for helping me yesterday, but I’m good now. Take care, Damien.”

Closing the door, Kelsey leaned against it, trying to catch her breath. No longer could her leg support her. Kelsey closed her eyes and lowered herself to the floor.

Why was her entire body shaking? What was wrong with her?

After sitting for ten minutes, she finally was able to compose herself enough to think rationally. When she realized he must be gone, she gathered enough strength to stand back up to open the door and peek out. She released a sigh of relief when she didn’t see him. However, she noticed he left the food for her in the hallway. Should she take it? Chinese did sound pretty good right about then.

Without giving herself a chance to change her mind, Kelsey seized the bags and quickly shut the door, her heart pounding. She had no explanation for her irrational behavior, but she latched the deadbolt as well.
Fate’s Cry (Kindle Locations 304-326). Kindle Edition.

The attraction between the two of them was palpable inspite of Tom’s (the cat) dislike of Damien.

A serial killer identity unknown, targeting young women. A friend that thinks he is more. A boss that may want more than she can give all blend to keep us guessing what’s next and who is the killer. A mysterious man with one name, that she can’t stop wanting.

This book sparked my imagination and although I figured out who Damien was early in the book the rest was a twist and turn to a conclusion I never suspected.

I look forward to reading the next book in this series Fate’s Roar. I enjoyed the teaser chapter at the end of this one.
