Roland James waited a long time to return to the Black Hills. After Seth, his best friend, left—was driven away—and Seth’s family vanished in the night, he had no reason to stay. Only one purpose remained for him—to build his strength and his skills until he could kill the men responsible for their loss. When word reaches him about Magnum’s demise and Drew’s ascension, he rushes home. Though Drew welcomes him and the town seems to be thriving with a Winter Solstice Run in the offing, Roland can’t celebrate. Not all of his enemies are dead. One—the worst—still lives.

Professor Claudia Donovan has spent a great deal of time and effort to locate one of her colleagues. Then she receives an odd message telling her to meet someone about the woman she’s been trying to find in the middle of nowhere in South Dakota. Taking the first flight and renting a car, she waits at the designated spot. A chance meeting and an even riskier hookup for her TA leaves her with more questions than answers. When she ends up in Los Lobos no one wants to answer her questions.

The last thing Roland expects when he lures the human to the Black Hills is to delight in her scent, her temper, and her cutting tongue. He needs the pawn to distract Ryker because the Enforcer has a weakness. Take away his mate, and Roland can kill him once and for all. Maybe his plan makes Roland the bad guy, but he can live with that. The only problem he has is his need for revenge may cost him Claudia….

I find myself going back and forth with this awesome series. This one from before the holidays just beckoned to me ‘Read me again. So I did and once again I fell in love with this pack.

Roland blames Ryker for his actions as Magnum’s enforcer. Even though Magnum is dead and now Drew is Alpha. He came back, took the blood oath, but revenge has been on his mind from day one. He figures the way to accomplish this is to separate Ryker from his mate. Not by anything nefarious but by helping someone who loves her and is worried about her find her and hopefully convince her to leave.

Claudia has been searching for Saja for almost a year and now finally may get a clue as to her location. Fate has plans for Claudia and Shoshanna, her assistant and travel companion on this quest. Plans that aren’t exactly the norm for humans.

As Roland prepares to out Saja, his friend Samuel becomes star struck over Shoshanna. His plans go awry as he ends up talking to Claudia while Sam pursues her friend. Roland finds he may the same attraction to Claudia. She, however, is not as receptive. Then Samuel beats him to the punch by revealing he knows Saja and where she is living.

The games begin when Claudia is forced to stay at Roland’s home. Unsure of her feelings and Roland finally realizing what his are, the following is a favorite scene.

“I came here because Saja Lyons was more than my student; she was family. So is Shoshanna. Tomorrow, I’m going to leave here, and neither one of them are going with me, which means I came looking for family and lost more.” The sharp assessment cut him. “I don’t begrudge Saja her husband or Shoshanna—whatever it is she’s discovered. That madness, that…absolute passion. I haven’t felt that in a long time. So, if I’m not your type, say so, and I’ll—”

It was the utter loneliness in her voice that undid him. Crossing the room in three strides, he slipped his arms around her, cupped her ass, and lifted her from the step until her face was level with his. “You are my type.”

Hunger clawed at him. Maybe it was his Wolf, or maybe it was the woman gripping his shoulders.
“I’m older than you.”

“Probably not, but I don’t give a damn about age.” His gaze fixed on her lips. “It’s a number. We’re flesh and blood.” Then he slammed his mouth down on hers.
Wolf in Winter Clothing (Black Hills Wolves #35): Winter Solstice Run (Kindle Locations 926-934). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

I really love the way Heather writes these wolves. So full of anger and overwhelmed with the past. This was another example of how the pack is healing by finding new beginnings and their mates.

Best way to tame a bad wolf? Be a little wicked yourself…

Carmen finds it hard to trust—then again, her father went mad and had to be put down by her current Alpha. Carmen might hold a position of power within the pack, but part of her always wonders if they could turn on her as quickly as they did him. When she finds a man who she’s pretty sure the current Alpha failed on a lot of levels, she decides to take matters into her own hands and prove Dara isn’t as perfect of an Alpha as everyone thinks.

Seth lost his mate, but he survived. He can’t stand to watch other wolves happily carrying on with their lives and mates after he’d failed to protect his own. Dara allows him his privacy and ensures that he survives, even if there are days when he wishes otherwise. When one headstrong and opinionated she-wolf decides she’s going to end the unique hell of his isolation, Seth has to make a choice…

Kick her butt to the curb or answer the call to claim her. But can he dare claim another mate when he knows he failed once to be the man his mate needed?

Review Spring Blog - Copy

Seth is an unusual lone wolf he has a pack but lives away from it. He follows a yearly ritual, one that holds a memory that his Alpha Dara understands. She accepts his behavior, but isn’t pleased he chooses to stay away from his pack.

Carmen is a young not so well meaning she wolf. She thinks Dara is falling down on the job and is trying to find proof of that. She encounters Seth on the night of his ritual and smells pack, but she has never seen him before. Thinking  he holds the evidence she needs that her Alpha has ignored or abandoned him she tracks him down.

What ensues is comical, sweet, sad and extremely sexy. Carmen has questions, questions Seth has no intention of answering. This is one of my favorite scenes.

In seconds, he was shimmying out of his jeans, providing even more of intoxicating view. “Look, probably me showing up naked gave the wrong impression…”

Because no matter how much she and her wolf wanted to crawl up that tempting body, he was still a stranger and she just wasn’t that kind of gal, no matter how much she might want to be right that second.

His snort of laughter called forth an answering grin from her. “Not why I’m stripping but I have to admit I like how you think, nosy wolf.”

She opened her mouth, proud of herself for keeping her gaze north of the beltline, but he interrupted with a single raised finger.

“I’m not going to answer your questions and you’re so tempting, so…”

The crunch of bones and flow of muscles warned her seconds before he started to change. “Aw, hell… Seriously? That’s weak dude.”

But she wasn’t talking to a man anymore. He stood on four feet, positively grinning at her with his toothy wolf mouth.

There’s lot of snark and lots of frustration in this delightful tale. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Rachel has had so many ups and downs in this series. There is also the problem of what was real and what was not. A very unsettling reality.

In this final episode, Icahn holds the women and children hostage to get Rachel. She needs the wolves cooperation to take him down or all will be for naught. So she makes the Alpha Andon a deal one he wouldn’t refuse. This was a difficult yet page turning read, with many twists and turns.

So with love, courage and strength this story winds to it’s close. Thank you Rebecca for the journey.

Two strangers…

Makenna James thinks her day can’t get any worse, until she finds herself stranded in a pitch-black elevator with a complete stranger. Distracted by a phone call, the pin-striped accountant catches only a glimpse of a dragon tattoo on his hand before the lights go out.

Four hours…

Caden Grayson is amused when a harried redhead dashes into his elevator fumbling her bags and cell phone. His amusement turns to panic when the power fails. Despite his piercings, tats, and vicious scar, he’s terrified of the dark and confined spaces. Now, he’s trapped in his own worst nightmare.

One pitch-black elevator…

To fight fear, they must reach out and open up. With no preconceived notions based on looks to hold them back, they discover just how much they have in common. In the warming darkness, attraction grows and sparks fly, but will they feel the same when the lights come back on?

Review Spring Blog - Copy

Most of this book takes place in a dark, stuck elevator.  It reminded me of speed dating only in the dark. Awkward at first, then a gradual sharing of selves. in the form of twenty questions. The intimate environment enabled Makenna and Caden to share their most private secrets.

Just a little peek into that darkness:

He chuckled. And launched into at least another twenty questions of the kind of minutiae you learned about a person after a couple months of dating: favorite band, favorite movie, favorite food, favorite place, favorite-everything-else-he-could-think-of, most embarrassing moment, and best day ever, though he skipped asking about worst day ever.
Makenna was glad— she didn’t think she could resist touching him if he talked about his brother again. Makenna enjoyed the conversation. Some time in the middle of discussing favorites, she stretched out on the floor and propped herself up on her elbow.
Despite being trapped in a pitch black elevator for a couple hours with a stranger, she felt surprisingly relaxed. The smallest niggling thought snuck into the back of her mind— she was kind of not looking forward to when the power came back on and they’d go their separate ways.
Hearts in Darkness (p. 17). Laura Kaye. Kindle Edition.

Lust blossomed in that elevator as well as friendship. I loved the gradual progression of events, the discoveries made by them with the sensory depravation of the complete darkness.

A tale woven in the dark and then moved into the light. A very sensual read that touches the heart and the mind.

I love the Montgomery Ink Series and this novella for 1001 Dark Nights is no exception.

Hailey and Sloane have been dancing around each other for years. This is their story, and what a story it is.

Breast Cancer at any age is devastating but Hailey had to conquer it at a very young age. I can’t imagine how difficult that must have been.

When Sloane finds he needs to step up to the plate and ask Hailey out, he knows he is too broken for her but can’t help himself. He wants her and damned if she doesn’t want him right back.

As always there is the love and support of  the Montgomery Ink family.

There is so much to love about this book I couldn’t select a passage that was a favorite.  I cried, then cried some more. This is so much more than a love story, it is the stripping away the secrets to the souls inside.

Cowboy Trace Williams thought he had trouble when his wife served him with divorce papers, forcing him to move to his cousin’s horse rescue ranch. But that was nothing compared to handling the female squatter he’s supposed to evict from Last Chance Ranch. Though she’s a crack shot and has no use for politeness or subtlety, her ability to communicate with animals has him seeking her out on behalf of the ranch…and himself.

Whisper Adams lives off the grid. She cares for her invalid uncle and watches over the wildlife that finds her. The animals are more trustworthy than the people she’s encountered. So when a hard-bodied, easy going cowboy arrives at her trailer and causes her heart to race, she’s anxious for him to leave, until he asks for her help at the ranch.

Since they end up together more often than she prefers, Whisper doesn’t deny her attraction to Trace, who introduces her to new experiences, from riding horses to an erotic New Year’s night in bed. But mixing with people, any people, opens her to new threats. This relationship might cost Trace his heart, but it could very well cost Whisper her life.

I love this series already! Last Chance Ranch is a home for abused horses and the folks who help them to heal.
Whisper has already had an impact on the family but when Trace goes to kick her off the land, he finds so much more.
When three starving horses are brought to them the one mare won’t eat. Travis grabs on to the knowledge that Whisper can help the horse and give a reason to Cole why she should be allowed to stay where she is. One of my favorite scenes
Whisper turned to Trace. “Feed them all, now.”
Jenna leaned on the corral fence. “The other two have eaten, they need to wait.”
“No.” Whisper looked at the vet. “Feed them all now. It doesn’t have to be a lot.”
Trace headed toward the barn. “I’ve got this.”
Jenna ran after him, but Whisper returned her attention to the horses. Storm scratched Mystique’s back with his teeth and the mare’s head rose higher to return the favor. Rogue moved himself to be side by side with her.
Whisper’s tension eased. Now that the mare was reunited with her friends, maybe she would eat.
Trace strode toward her carrying a bucket of grain. Again she was reminded of an animal, but not a mountain lion this time. Instead, his broadness reminded her of a black bear she’d once seen up north standing on his hind legs scratching his back against a tree trunk. Yet Trace’s stride was all his, confident, strong, sexy.
She snapped her gaze back to the horses and her idea of asking him to have sex with her resurfaced.
Trace climbed the fence and dropped down inside the corral. He softened his landing by bending his knees, obviously not wanting to startle the horses. He moved to the tray that had been put out for them and emptied his bucket. “Come and get it.” He grinned at her as he stepped aside.
Storm immediately moved, jostling Mystique. Rogue followed and Mystique, not wanting to be left alone, joined them. As soon as she saw the food, she lowered her head and ate with her friends, sandwiched between them.
Whisper sighed with relief even as Trace walked toward her. “You did it.”
His look was full of pride and she felt her cheeks flush. She shrugged. “I guessed.”
He shook his head. “No, I saw you in there. You understood her. Is that why your name is Whisper? Because you are a horse whisperer?”
She chuckled. “Not even close.”
Trace’s Trouble (Last Chance Book 2) (Kindle Locations 677-693). Lexi Post. Kindle Edition.
But Whisper has more secrets, ones that could destroy the blossoming love between her and Trace.
Lots of heat and smoldering sex. A wonderful story of love, new beginnings and more. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

When word reaches him that his blood brother, Mavet, has bonded an Earth female Tandar is both elated and worried. I love this world. A human woman can have so much more than several hot hunky mates. She could get some additional powers through the mate bond.

In this one we see first hand that a whiny bitch on earth can be just as whiny and bitchy here , as a mate to “Vungus, or as she liked to call him, Vungus the Fungus, was a world—no, galaxy-wide class-A dick.Unfortunately a high ranking one. I love Jazz and this scene was one I could see myself in. Yep I would definitely do what Jazz did.

Staring at the woman causing all the commotion, now actually stamping her feet in a petulant fit, Jaz focused on
mentally reaching out and poking her ass just to shut her the hell up. Evidently she’d poked a little harder than needed, because the woman shrieked as if she’d been stabbed, Vungus bellowed with rage, and every male in the place went on instant alert.

Her husbands were suddenly at her side and she sensed not only their shock and anger at her impetuous action, but
their intense worry which had her heart racing.

It’s always those who are full of themselves that cause all the  trouble.

The courting of Tandar and Jazz is sizzling hot and far out weighs the trouble. Sexy almost seems a mild word. I loved every page turning second.

As Ann grew older, and her hormones kicked in, she discovered bodice ripping Fabio-esque romance novels. They were great at first, but she soon grew tired of the endless stories with a big wonderful emotional buildup to really short and crappy sex. Never a big fan of purple prose, throbbing spears of fleshy pleasure and wet honey pots make her giggle, she sought out books that gave the sex scenes in the story just as much detail and plot as everything else-without using cringe worthy euphemisms. This led her to the wonderful world of Erotic Romance, and she’s never looked back.

This book was a gift in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This story begins with Elle having a vision, one where Zavier her fated mate, dies. In order to prevent that she must get the Divine Dagger from the underworld, and hide it from Garrick.  Garrick (Zavier’s brother) is planning on overthrowing the Gods something that cannot be allowed to happen.

When Nyx, Goddess of Darkness and Elle’s mother shows up and unlocks her powers without warning or explanation.   Elle is suddenly a lot more than she was, but the transformation is harsh and debilitating. This is one of my favorite passages.

“Please don’t touch me.”

“Let me help you.”

“You’ve done enough. The mild skin irritation I used to get when going out in the sun has turned into blisters. My skin actually started to burn.” She closed her eyes, trying to calm the anger bubbling up while wishing she weren’t trapped inside a closet. A moment later, she was pulled through some kind of parallel space. When she opened her eyes, she gasped to find that she was standing next to her bed.

She’d teleported. Wide-eyed, she stared at Zavier, who faced her then closed the closet door. His features didn’t reveal any change in emotion. “What’s going on? You know something.”

He released a sigh and leaned against her dresser. “Gwen and I did some research and talked with Ash. Nyx isn’t just the goddess of night, she is night. But you already knew that much.”

She folded her arms and glared. “Just fucking tell me how much of a monster I’ve become.”
Chaotic War (Kindle Locations 359-366). After Glows. Kindle Edition.

A fast paced tale with lots of frustration sexual and otherwise. I love how each installment reveals twists and turns making the wait for the next one difficult, but worth it.

Peering at forty from a bit too close, she realizes she can be miserable that she didn’t end up happily married to the handsome prince…or she can count her lucky stars. She tries to go with stars, but the universe seems to have other plans.

Jack Leonard has loved Chloe since they were kids. He’s stood by her through all life’s little messes, been her shoulder to cry on, and figured one day they’d wind up together. He figures he’s just waiting her out. When her life goes swirly, he’s got to convince her that some men are worth risking it all for.

Can Jack make Chloe rethink her birthday wish or will she get just what she asked for when she blows out Forty Candles?

This book opens with Chloe’s 39th birthday. Celebrating with friends, she decides to put herself out there more to maybe find the right relationship in the process.

Jack on the other hand has been her best friend since they were children. He wants more, he wants the relationship with her, but she keeps pushing him away. Opening up to his best friend Dillon, he ends up betting on the outcome of his plan to pursue Chloe. His plan to slowly woo her and not become a notch in her bedpost.

I feel for Chloe, it’s hard when you start to doubt your self worth because of dumb arse exes and the years passing by. This is especially true when friends are getting married and are blissfully in love.

Jack has to find a way to win her heart, and stop her self destructiveness. But will it be too little, too late.

A quick and satisfying read. I loved the interaction between all the characters and of course there were smoldering hot scenes as well. I do admit I wanted to smack the two of them a few times but that’s what makes a good story.

About the Author Spring Blog

Virginia Nelson 2 Virginia Nelson

Virginia Nelson likes knights in rusted and dinged up armor, heroes that snarl instead of croon, and heroines who can’t remember to say the right thing even with an author writing their dialogue. Her books are full of snark, sex, and random acts of ineptitude–not always in that order.

As a flight attendant, Rayne Jackson is used to cancellations, but she never dreamed her latest would lead to a whirlwind tour of London with a handsome stranger…or a life-altering night in his bed. One evening is all the enigmatic man can give her, and Rayne greedily takes it, despite suspecting it will never be enough.

Heading home after another extreme mission, Keane “Ghost” Bryson hadn’t planned to seduce someone during his layover, but Rayne is too sweet to resist. Being a Delta Force member means lying to protect his identity, which is unfortunate, considering Rayne seems made for Ghost, right down to the tattoo on her back. For the first time in his life, regret fills him as he slips away the following morning.

Both are shocked when, months later, they meet again—under the worst possible circumstances. Seems fate has given them a second chance…if they can survive the terrorist situation they’re in. If Rayne can forgive Ghost his lies. And if Ghost can trust Rayne to be strong enough to endure the secrets and uncertainty that come with loving a Delta Force soldier.

** Rescuing Rayne is the 1st book in the Delta Force Heroes Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

I love military heroes, and this one has them in full force. A brand new series with the crossover beginning in the last Seals of Protection book Protecting the Future.

I absolutely loved the beginning of this book, the cancelled flight and then the tour of London. I swear I felt like I was touring with them.

The agreement for a one night stand, no strings attached, no contact information just one night to enjoy each other’s bodies was a sizzling hot night indeed. The discovery of Rayne’s tattoo that has one meaning for her, but another for Ghost. The end of this night was one of my favorite scenes, one that had me sniffling.

“Soar High, Princess,” he whispered softly into her ear before standing up.

Ghost turned and walked to the door and stopped with one hand on the knob. Taking a resigned breath, he walked back over to the amazing woman in the bed and slowly tugged the sheet down, revealing the curve of her spine…and the tattoo that had made him lose his mind. He stared down at it, arguing with himself. It really was uncanny how she’d been able to capture the essence of who he was without even knowing him. Ghost knew he was being maudlin, but couldn’t help it.

The side that wanted a memory of this night forever won, and Ghost quickly took out his cell phone and snapped a picture of the unique tattoo, being careful not to capture anything indecent in his photo. Her beautiful backside was for his eyes only.

The circumstances of their next meeting holds some very intense moments. I found myself holding my breath, and crying. I did get frustrated with Ghost’s alpha male attitude at times, but then they all can really be dumb asses. I couldn’t put this book down, it kept me on my toes the entire book.

I did quite a bit of crying, both happy and sad. Better get some tissues.
